The Sunshine State Acoustic Music Camp is Held Yearly at Boyd Hill Environmental Studies Area, a Beautiful Nature Park in St. Petersburg, Florida

You'll see this sign as you pull into the park. Boyd Hill's over 100 acres have never been developed. The park is a gorgeous wild area amazingly preserved within the city of St. Petersburg.
>To the right as you pull into Boyd Hill is the parking area, with lots of room for tent camping, motor homes, R.V.'s (sorry no hookups) and other camping arrangements. There is no charge for camping for registered SSAMC students and families.
You can also choose to stay in rustic bunkhouses on site. There are six bunkhouses with ten bunks in each. There are mattresses on the bunks but no other bedding. Bunks are assigned on a while-they-last basis, with registered students getting first opportunity. If there are empty bunks remaining after all registered students that want them have them, those bunks are available for significant others and children. Fee for the weekend is $15 per bunk. At Boyd Hill there are modern restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and plenty of hot water. There are motels and restaurants along U.S. 19 just a mile from the camp, for those who prefer them. Plenty of stores and service stations too.

A few rules: No smoking is allowed in any building at the camp, and is discouraged elsewhere on the site. The City of St. Petersburg prohibits bringing any pets of any kind into the Boyd Hill Environmental Studies Area. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed at the Boyd Hill Environmental Studies Area. Children are welcome at the camp, and they love it--but please plan to supervise all children all of the time. There are dense wooded areas on the site, and there definitely ARE alligators in the ponds.

Most areas of the site where the SSAMC will be held are lighted at night, but there are many darker areas, so do bring flashlights. Also worth mentioning: Folding chairs will be provided, but lots of people bring their own more comfortable seating. At Boyd Hill you'll find picnic tables and outdoor grills and nature trails. There's plenty of space for everyone to relax and have a wonderful time! You'll swear you are miles out in the country instead of in St. Petersburg!
The picture here shows the Central Hall on the right of the picture, a few cars in the distance in a parking area on the
extreme left of the picture. There's a blue tent set up under the trees...and there is a class underway in the left center of the shot. Wonder what they're studying?

DIRECTIONS
The SSAMC is held at Boyd Hill Environmental Studies Area, at 2900 31st Street South, St. Petersburg. In addition to the park entrance sign pictured above, there will be a sign by the park entrance saying MUSIC CAMP.

You will probably come into the Tampa Bay area on Interstate Route 75 (N-S) or Interstate Route 4 (E-W). Both of these major routes intersect with Interstate Route 275, which angles through the area. Southbound toward Tampa on I-75, you'll find I-275 branching off of I-75 just north of Tampa. Follow I-275 on into St. Petersburg. Northbound on I-75, you'll take exit 44 to I-275 and follow I-275 into St. Petersburg. I-4 meets I-275 in Tampa. From I-4 you'll take I-275 across the bay on the Howard Franklin Bridge and on into St. Petersburg.

Travelling by air, you will probably arrive at Tampa International Airport, accessing I-275 in Tampa from there to travel southbound into St. Petersburg.

COMING FROM THE NORTH, take I-275 to the 22nd Avenue SOUTH exit in St. Petersburg. (Don't take the 22nd Avenue NORTH exit!) Turn left on 22nd Avenue South, and go to 31st Street. Turn Right on 31st Street and proceed to gate.
COMING FROM THE SOUTH, take I-275 to the 26th Avenue South exit in St. Petersburg. Immediately turn right on 31st Street and proceed to gate (very close).

See You There!
