Passing the Heritage along...Here, left, is talented young Megan Bartlett, a scholarship student at the 2001 camp, with her beloved fiddle. (Photo by Debra Keith.) On the right, the old man himself, camp director Charley Groth, teaching fingerstyle guitar. (Photo by Samantha Daake.) | ![]() |
| Here we see our great bass instructor, Doris Sotirellis, with one of SSAMC 2001's classes of students of the big instrument. "Basically yours..." Doris signs herself! (Photo by Sandra Arozqueta.) | ![]() |

One of the most enjoyable non-class activities at the camp is jamming! It never stops! At the center of this jam is Doug Travers, our sound reinforcement instructor and versatile man of music, with multi-talented Dobro instructor Art Crummer, left, concertina instructor Gail Keel, also an amazing musician, right, and students. | Here's that student again--Sandy Maloon, playing harmonica in the jam above, a few minutes later. Many of our students are beginners, but some, like Sandy, are already fine musicians. Sandy is a fine bass player who came to the camp to pick up tricks from Doris Sotirellis...but she plays lots of other instruments too, and writes songs as well. (Photo by Samantha Daake.) | ![]() |

Passing the heritage along...We are very fortunate to have southern fiddle guru Elan Chalford teaching at SSAMC. Here he captivates a young student, as he does so many of us, with his music. Maybe she'll go on to an illustrious career in music!(Photo by Samantha Daake.) |

| Of course not all SSAMC students are young in years--but they are all young in the more important ways. There may be some snow on this harmonica student's roof, left, but there's certainly a fire to learn and to make music in his heart! Instruments don't have to be young to make sweet music, either, as Andrew Delany proves when he plays his guitar (right)! (Photos by Samantha Daake.) | |

A fun activity at the SSAMC is the lunch-hour student show. Here we see a great many Autoharp students, led by instructor Cheryl Belanger (right, in blue), showing off their new skills. Wonder how many strings are shown in this picture??? (Photo by Debra Keith.) |
| Autoharp instructor Cheryl Belanger's husband is Ray Belanger, SSAMC's lead hammer dulcimer instructor (far right in the picture, right). He is widely known for the quality of both his playing and his instruction. Not surprisingly, the talented Belangers are popular performers and recording artists. We are lucky to have both of them at the SSAMC. (Photo by Debra Keith.) |
